Common Questions
Therapy isn't just for people in crisis. Many of the people I work with are functioning well on the outside but feel quietly stuck, lost, or disconnected from themselves. If you've ever thought, "something needs to change, but I can't quite name it", that's enough of a reason to reach out.
Certainly not. Quite often, the people I support appear highly capable in their daily lives but experience a persistent sense of misalignment within their personal or interpersonal connections.
There is no requirement for a medical referral or a clinical label, nor must your concerns meet a certain threshold of severity. If a matter is weighing on you, it is worthy of our attention.
Sessions are led by you. There's no agenda I impose, and we start where you are. Some sessions feel like a profound conversation, others involve specific tools or exercises. All of them are in service of what matters most to you.
This varies enormously from person to person. Some people find clarity and momentum in a handful of sessions. Others choose to work together for months or longer. We'll review regularly, and you're always free to pause or finish when it feels right for you.
Most clients begin with weekly sessions to build momentum, then move to fortnightly as things settle. Ultimately, the pace is yours to set. How will I know when I'm done?
You'll know. Therapy ends when you feel equipped, grounded, and ready to move forward on your own and when the work we set out to do feels complete. That's always the goal.
I am located in Melbourne, Australia, in the Southeastern suburbs. Telehealth is currently available nationally. I am very flexible and aim to provide appointment options to fit your busy life. This is discussed during our initial consultation.
Yes — and the research strongly supports this. Multiple independent studies have found no significant difference in outcomes between telehealth and face-to-face therapy. Many clients actually prefer Telehealth as it's private, flexible, and removes the barrier of travel and waiting rooms.
I'm worried about privacy - what if someone can hear me?
This is a really common concern. Most clients find a private space at home like a bedroom, a parked car, or anywhere they feel comfortable. Sessions are conducted on a secure, encrypted platform designed specifically for healthcare. Nothing we discuss goes anywhere.
A 60-minute session costs $145. I keep my caseload intentionally small so each client receives my full attention and dedication.Â
Payment is due in full either upon booking or on the day of your session.
Your credit card information will be securely stored for automatic processing, or you can do a direct bank payment.
I charge a cancellation fee equal to the cost of your session if you cancel with less than 48 hours' notice.
Can I claim on private health insurance?
Some private health funds offer rebates for counselling and psychotherapy services with a PACFA-registered practitioner. I recommend checking directly with your fund.Â
That's completely normal — especially in the beginning. You don't need to arrive with a neat list of problems. Sometimes, just saying "I don't know where to start" is exactly where we start.
Absolutely. Everything you share with me stays between us. What Matters Therapy is committed to the highest standards of confidentiality in line with PACFA's Code of Ethics and Australian law. For full details, please read our Privacy and Confidentiality Protocols.
Both are completely welcome here. Tears, silence, confusion, uncertainty — this is a space where all of it is safe to experience, without judgment and without rushing. Feeling something deeply in a session is often a sign that something important is being touched upon. This could be a physical, emotional or cognitive reaction to what we are exploring.Â
Discomfort is also a normal part of the process. It often means we're exploring something meaningful. But your comfort and safety always come first. You are always in control of what we explore and how deeply we go. If something doesn't feel right, just say so, and I will always listen.
Not every therapeutic relationship is the right fit, and that's okay. The connection between therapist and client is everything. That's exactly why I offer a free 30-minute Discovery Call so you can get a feel for whether we're the right fit before committing to anything.
Therapy isn't about reaching a finish line. As things shift and grow, we'll check in regularly about how you're feeling and whether the pace still works for you. When you feel ready to pause, we'll recognise it together. And if life brings new challenges down the track, you're always welcome to come back. Many people do, and that's not a step backwards — it's simply part of life.
Just a device with a camera and microphone, like a smartphone, tablet, or laptop, and a reliable internet connection. No special software to download. I'll send you a link before your session, and you simply click to join.
